Our Philosophy

At St. John Lutheran School our philosophy is to assist parents in providing a Christ centered and academically sound education for their children.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

 Proverbs 22:6

Our History

From its inception as Lutheran Church St. John has maintained a parochial school.

In 1849, Sigmund Butterman, St. John's first pastor, open the school in the basement of the parsonage.  Pastor Butterman was the school’s only teacher.  By 1863, there were 110 pupils enrolled.  A new school was dedicated in 1914.  In 1942, an addition was made to the back of the existing school.  Since then, many modifications and improvements have been made to the building.  In 1893, the St. John Veterans Memorial Parish Hall was built and provided our school and church with a much larger gym and dining facility.
